I had the wonderful privelage of attending the 2008 Cita National Conference at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles California this past week. Right about here:
This was an incredible time to meet with people all over the US who love theatre and are attempting to study, direct, act, teach theatre from a perspective that both honors God and understands the artform well. I got to take a track called "Theatre and Theology" with a guy named Todd Johnson. He is a Department Chair and professor at Fuller Theological Seminary and he rocked my face off with his knowledge. I have to admit about 1/2 to 3/4 of it I am still processing (read: didn't understand), but it was great. If you are curious as to what exactly goes on in about 7-8 hours of a seminar titled as such - e-mail me and I would love to tell you.
I was also able to meet up with an old college buddy named Steve Wood who is currently pursuing his PhD in Theatre from Texas Tech. Steve and I acted at BBC together in the Shadowlands almost NINE years ago! Can you believe it? And as providence would have it we were able to spend a couple of days together in California.
Returning back to Charlotte was crazy. More than one kind of plane delay in Dallas meant that we didn't get on the ground in Charlotte until 1:11am. Then we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our luggage to come down the shoot. Has anyone flown recently? Things are getting crazy out there my friends...no more peanuts or pretzels! And now I heard that they were going to be charging for a beverage as well! The free Coke is what made the trip! The challenge of asking the Steward, um, "Can I have the whole can?" was part of the fun of flying! ARRRGH GAS PRICES!
I'm glad to be back home.
