One of the greatest joys in Sophia's life is going to Harris Teeter for a "cookie an a bayoon" (Sophese for balloon). For those of our readers that are not in Harris Teeter land (lucky for you), I must tell you that at Harris Teeter, all middle men are removed and there is a corral to help yourself  to the balloons and a corral to help yourself to the cookies:

I would say that the Harris Teeter cookie and a balloon have been an exciting thing for Sophia for at least a year. As of recent, however, we have added to this obsession the "little cart" desire. Charlie (my brother) told me this week that certain Publix stores have these now, but this is the first place that I had ever seen them. You can see them in the pictures below if you have never feasted your eyes on one. Basically they are like big people carts, only really really small.
Once Sophia figured out what these were it was all down hill. She asks for the little cart EVERY time we head into the store. Thankfully they saw fit to design these mayhem causing mini-carts with a metal pole that comes up to my height. This pole makes it really easy to grab the cart whenever I see that Sophia is headed into (at best) a shelf and (at worst) someone's achilles. More than once we have had to call mayday and grab a hold of the safety pole. All complaints aside, it is fun to watch her learn to navigate her way through the aisles and have a sense of accomplishment when she sees that she has helped us by carrying our purchases.

I LOVED those carts when I was little. They had them at Publix in Miami, FL, where I grew up, but I haven't seen them in Orlando at all. Such a cool idea, and I'm glad to see they've upgraded them with a parent pole, for your sake. :-)
